Ice cream!! JACK WHITE! What day you had! When my friend and I went to hear him we bought tix a bit late and ended up in the rafters. But we—oldies—were dancing! And so someone came up to us partway through, and told us they had two empty seats down below… that we could have. The young people in the row behind us said “Wow! I’ve HEARD of this happening!” And high-fived us, and then we were escorted to amazing seats!
Jolene, thank you for sharing this. Always such a good read. I so want to see your town someday. Hope to get to your annual blues fest… xo
I am howling! “do you keep potholders in your purse? “🤣 I’m imagining handing him a potholder as we’re standing on Michigan Avenue as a parting gift “here, Jack, enjoy!” omg Mel, hilarious. It would have to have been red, white and black, of course. ❤️ 🤍 🖤
You are the consummate groupie, Jolene, which is why everyone loves you! I dug into rainbow cone ice cream back when I wrote American Cake. It was really nice to have that remembrance. Need to taste one!
Wow, what a day you had, Jolene! I've been making ice cream all week (with post to come soon!), so this is so very timely. Now I'd like to try making ALL those flavors! But together on one cone? That's like winning the ice cream lottery! Then meeting your musical idol and having the gumption to ask him to take a selfie with you? And such a cute one too? I'm so impressed, though not surprised. It was a Jolene kind of day. (And P.S.: I'm excited to know Rainbow Cone is not all that far from me--will have to check it out soon!)
Yes! Turns out there are two locations within an hour of here — longer in traffic, of course. One is in a favorite beach town. We might have to make a pilgrimage!😘
The rainbow cone gave you bravery! In Chicago on my high school senior trip, my cousin spotted, back then, Cassius Clay walking on the sidewalk, boldly walked up to him, and asked him for his autograph. He was gracious and wrote it on a small piece of paper she pulled out of her pocket. Guess something to be said of Chicago sidewalks. Thank you for such a fun experience.
