I don't think I've ever had a really good fruit cake, Jolene. Not surprisingly, we always had panettone and pandoro in our house when I was growing up, and I've kept on the tradition. I do love the look of a good fruitcake, though, especially one with a layer of snowy white icing. Thanks for getting me into the holiday spirit with your daily advent calendar posts!
I’m so excited to be included in your Advent calendar line up - thank you. I’m hoping we can convert a few more people to the joy of fruit cake. I’m eagerly waiting for Camilla’s book - it should be good timing heading into cherry, berry and stone fruit season here. I have visions of a pantry filled with candied jewels of fruit.
Thanks SO much for including me on Day 3 of your terrific Advent Calendar series, Jolene! I’m honored to be in the company of Julia, whose Sri Lankan fruitcake is definitely in my sights for the future. I’m getting a late start on my fruitcake baking, but one will definitely be winging its way in your direction before the end of Advent! Nature’s Candy also sounds like it’s right up my alley—I’m fascinated with the marvels of making candied fruit—so much better than the day-glow varieties you come across in the supermarket.
I just love traditional and non traditional fruit cakes. I especially enjoy Christmas cake in January, when the tree decorations are long down, the weather is miserable and the wait until the next pay check seems like an eternity.
It’s a shame that younger generations sometimes don’t enjoy cake which contains dried fruit.
I am loving all of this, Jolene! And I do love fruitcake. My Mom made it for many years, and it was always so good. A friend in the Midwest often sent a fruitcake from Colin Street Bakery at the holidays, and I thought it was very good! I'd like to try the ones you have written about today. ❤️

Thank you, Domenica! I love Panettone and I’ve only just seen pictures of a Pandoro, I need to remedy that! Hope you’re having a great birthday! 🎂 xx
You haven’t lived until you’ve had Ruth’s fruitcake!
Agreed, Amie! 😋
Oh wow, thanks, Amie! Getting a late start, but it’s a-comin’!

Glad you’re enjoying, Pam! I just googled Colin Street, thanks for the tip! Love the memory of your Mom’s fruit cake. ❤️

Fruit cake is my ultimate weakness...
So good, I agree! ✨❤️
Love a good fruitcake - maybe it's an Aussie thing! 😉
