It was so much fun talking you. And I am still in awe of how pretty you made the cake look. And I still need to buy that Dali book you wrote about in a recent post. (you are going to make me go broke buying cookbooks.)
I’m always so delighted when I make time for this Substack, thank you Jolene for what you share and who you introduce us to & this recipe, I’m excited to try it! And congrats on the future, you deserve it!
I love the comment about "the grazing quality to it." Like everyone, I am reading five books at once, and I'm trying to bring that quality to my own writing, too. Yes to grazing!
Thank you for this wonderful post, Jolene! And congratulations on your Dali newsletter! You are officially a magical realist food writer yourself!!!! Love, Jamie
Isn’t that right to the heart of things, Jillian? I agree, Brilliant, sensible advice. I also loved that she said be ready with your pages if opportunity presents itself. All about the work :)
This book sounds incredible, Jolene - a combination of my favorite things- chocolate, short stories and recipes! I just ordered it from my local bookstore! I'm excited to read and bake!
"‘The Mysterious Meatloaf Couple’ who rendezvous at a diner and can barely contain their lust." This made me literally LOL. This was a great interview.
My book arrived yesterday, and I think it's going to be one that my food-obsessed book club women will want to have! Does Genevieve live in the UK? I wish I could have had lunch with you on Tuesday...is the lovely platter a recent find? You always go the extra mile for your readers, and I'm glad Substack agrees! ❤️
I’m so glad it arrived, Pam, and what a great book club book! The platter is from a line of products by cookbook author Skye McAlpine, on Instagram you can find it at Skye McAlpine a Tavola, I got it the Christmas before last. Genevieve lives in the UK but she is, as she says, originally a proud Seattle girl!
Such a great post, Jolene! I’m definitely ordering this book. Congrats on being a featured Substack publication. No one deserves it more. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a book in your future too! 🤗
Thank you, Ruth, I know you will enjoy Genevieve’s book and, as always, thank you so much for your kind words and support! Hope you and Jeff are well :)

Honest to God, Sarah, when I read the line in the book ‘The Mysterious Meatloaf Couple’ I burst out laughing! So glad you enjoyed the interview! :)
So true about agents, editors, and publishing. That's how it happened for me as well. I didn't go looking. They came looking for me!
I thought you’d appreciate that, Kate, I know that’s how it happened for you, too!
