I nearly fell into the saucepan at seven years old, when I stood up on a stool, stuck my nose well into the pan, and was riveted by what was going on there.' -- that must be the best opening I've heard for a food-related book.
An interesting post, Jolene. I love that last illustration! What a statement it makes about celebrating family and food! And stylistically, it reminds me of the images in the books of my childhood.
I didn't have this book in my collection - that has been remedied, however 😊. Thank you so much for the introduction to this piece of culinary literature. May even need to break down and get a subscription to Max to watch 'Julia.' And you are welcome at our table any day. ~ Leigh
blowing my mind to imagine someone hearing about pumpkin pie for the first time (I am not the biggest pumpkin pie fan but it has become so “normal” for Americans)
Echoing others here, but I didn’t know this had been made into a MAX show—I’m excited to check it out! Loved this history (with a side of breaking news). 🤗
Also missed that Season 2 was coming back, so thanks, Jolene! Julia Child is the gift that keeps on giving, but I really knew little about Simca. Now I’m eager to learn more. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Jolene!
I've been curious about Simca for ages so I'm looking forward to more on Food and Friends. And the menu created from all those newsletters is a marvel! Thanks for sharing all this, Jolene!

Ooooo...... more Julia and Simca! Love the sweet menu art as well. Cool, Jolene.

thank u for this beautiful post. and how did i not know this show was a thing?
I have to immediately call two things in this post groooooovy as can be:
1) the first retro thanksgiving image
and 2) you as a then-stagiaires!!! what a phrase!
and perhaps not as groovy, but what serious friendship nor sisters do not have tension?? ha
so good to catch up a bit here!!
