The saffron buns you made are beautiful, and I'm wondering about the china you used for serving coffee. Are they treasures you have found a long the way or passed down from family? Glad Lucia! 🎄
Thank you so much Pam, The Rosenthal teapot and creamer were a gift from my late mother-in-law close to 40 years ago, and the teacups are from a trip to Venice 30 years ago!
Lovely post! Always had a fondness for St. Lucia and St. Lucia Day - the imagery is just so magical, the light in the darkness of winter, the candles, the beautiful golden S-shaped buns. (As a young girl, I also had an American Girl doll of Kirsten, the Swedish immigrant, who had a St. Lucia outfit you could buy - I was obsessed and made my family celebrate, complete with homemade St. Lucia buns. My daughter now has my old doll and wants to celebrate St. Lucia Day. I forgot about it this year, but next year I will use this recipe you posted.)
A light - bearing saint is VERY WELCOME during DST. Light - bearers / light - givers can be found in many cultures. They're NOT going to be turned AWAY !
The journey from Sicily to Sweden sounds POTENTIALLY interesting. There are a number of saints who are picked up in countries far from their native lands. If memory serves. I believe Saint Nicholas is a good example. GOOD / GLAD LUCIA TO YOU.
Here it is the Feast of Light and I have yet to get a tree or lights up. Ah well. I'd rather read your daily Advent Calendar posts anyway. Every one of them contains gems! Thank you for the kind mention and link, and for reminding me of your interview with Genevieve Jenner, which I will now reread.
Glad Lucia, Jolene! Those saffron buns look yummy. I certainly wouldn't mind waking up to some of those and a pot of fresh brewed coffee. I wonder how many parents fretted about all those burning candles as their eldest walked through their wooden house?
My little boy and his pre-school classmates sang lucia songs at an old folks home today. It was really rather lovely. Thanks for this post.
That is so sweet, Wil! Glad Lucia to you and your family! 🕯️✨
