Loved reading this post, Joleen! SO EXCITED to hear that there is a Hilary Knight retrospective at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass. I'm from the Berkshires and will take my mom to see the exhibit during Christmas break. I <3 Eloise! Thank you for the great writing. Happy holidays!
Amanda! I’m so glad you’ll get to see it with your Mom! What a beautiful place to grow up in, I had a close friend from Pittsfield and still have fond memories of sitting on the porch at the Red Lion in the summer. So nice to hear from you and have very Happy Holidays! ✨❤️
Thank you for this wonderful post, Jolene! I live not far from the Norman Rockwell Museum and will visit soon! You are a such a gift to all of us. Love you, Jamie
This was such a gorgeous read...I can’t decide who’s more fascinating, Kay or Hilary? And as a former Gourmet magazine editor, I am delighted to be reminded of how rich this legendary magazine’s history of collaborators really was❤️❤️❤️thank you Jolene!
Thanks so much, Jolene, for this VERY interesting and fun read! My Mom and I both loved Eloise, and I'm glad to know more about the creators and illustrator. Your centerpiece is beautiful...I do miss Gourmet Magazine! 🥰
I love this Jolene. When I lived in NYC and needed a ladies room in midtown I would stop by the Plaza, and admire the framed illustration of Eloise while I was there. Thanks for the info about the show in Stockbridge. I'm especially taken with the illustration of the holiday bazaar and your ambitious centerpiece!
This post is another delightful treat, Jolene! I’d never heard of Hilary Knight, but am now eager to learn all about him. Jeff spent his teens in Stockbridge and it’s a classic New England town well worth visiting (and now even more so with the added incentive of this exhibit!). Your centerpiece is simply gorgeous. I’m trying to thing of ways to adapt it for Hanukkah! 🍇
Thank you, Ruth! Oh my gosh, I was in Stockbridge a lot during college, I had a good friend from Pittsfield. We used to always go to the Lions Den, the bar attached to the Red Lion Inn! What are you thinking of doing for Hanukkah as a centerpiece? Let me know! ❤️
What a stunning centerpiece you created, Jolene! And such interesting information—he is indeed a "legendary illustrator", and I'm excited to read the articles about his Stockbridge show.

There's a timeless quality to illustrated cookbooks... forever charming!
So true, Sinù!
Beautiful! Great idea for holiday party-hopefully I can make time to put together something similar for an upcoming gathering.

Thank you, Christene ❤️ and I agree about Kay and Hilary! Such big and interesting lives and talent. Beautiful what you wrote about Gourmet. ✨
What a treat! I’ve always loved Eloise and Knight! I’m definitely going to look up his other books.
Thanks, Jillian! I actually was thinking all of his sketchbooks could be ‘notebooks’ ?
Definitely! I’ll look into it 😀

Thank you, Vicki! I used to do the same thing, popping into the Plaza and passing Eloise enroute to the ladies room! ❤️
Eloise is one of my faves!
“I am Eloise. I am six. I live at the Plaza hotel.”
Such a perfect opening! ❤️
