I’m so glad you can make the party, Ruth! 😃

I REALLY need to visit NM, have never been and it’s about time I do! So glad you are going again in November and to visit Abiquiu (she said she bought it because of the garden!)

I had “A Child’s Garden of Verses”, too! I remember not knowing what ‘counterpane’ meant and not mother said ‘blanket’ 😂

About carrot soup: Domenica just wrote that butternut squash gets all the glory, but carrot soup is so great and colorful and sweet! Hope you and Jeff are well, thanks for well wishes! 🥣🥣🐾🧡

Yes, it was A Child’s Garden of Verses, undoubtedly how I learned the meaning of counterpane too! I can still recite certain verses by heart (“The Swing” for one) because of that book, which I wish I still possessed.

I think you’d love New Mexico, aptly named The land of Enchantment!

Looking forward to that party!🤗

As for carrot soup, I can't think why I've never made it, carrot and soup lover that I am. Fixing that oversight very soon!🥕🍜

Your carrot soup looks divine! My son has a home in Taos, NM. He arranged for a tour of her home at Abiquiu through the Georgia O’Keefe Visitor Center. I have been a big fan of Georgia for decades. Seeing that black and white photo of her chopping vegetables for a salad takes me there. Her house is just as it was when she lived there. The views from her grounds and large windows were an inspiration for her. The tour guide, a retired art teacher, told us she bought her house because it had a water source for her garden and orchard. If you get a chance, visit her Abiquiu house and also the Georgia O’Keefe Museum in Santa Fe, NM.

I never quite understood hygge, but think I might now. Love this, special thanks for bringing me back to “The Land of Counterpane.” Hope Tillie is on the mend.

That makes me SO happy to hear, my friend!!

I’m leaving Scotland tomorrow 😭 but that means Amsterdam is up next. (If it weren’t for my own sweet felines at home, I might never go back!)

Good to hear that you and Tillie are both on the mend. Soup always does the trick and your carrot one looks delicious. Loved the Georgia O’Keefe museum in Santa Fe. It was my first introduction to her and I’ve been fascinated ever since.

I am a "foodie," Jolene, and make hearty soups all the time, so I really enjoyed this post!. Tonight I made a Chicken and Black Bean Taco soup--so good and full of vegetables. I am glad you feel better and I hope Tillie will feel better soon too! Best Wishes, Pat

PS: I saw a wonderful special exhibit of Georgia O'Keefe's life and paintings in the Denver Art Museum a few years ago--very enjoyable--what a life she lived!

I love that Georgia O’Keefe taught her cook…how to cook 😄 I will look for a copy of The Oainter’s Kitchen. I hope you and Tilly are better, Jolene. Butternut squash soup gets all the glory but carrot soup is so delicious. 🥕

Isn’t that the best? 89 and giving instructions on all of it! No matter how much I learn about O’Keeffe, there’s always something new that impresses. Butternut squash gets all the glory, lol, so true, and carrots are so sweet and beautiful and delicious! This soup is a winner, Domenica! Thanks for your well wishes for me and Tillie! 🥣🥣🐾🧡

Talk about color! That carrot soup is the prettiest shade of orange I think I've ever seen! It absolutely jumps off the page. Georgia would definitely approve!

I adore this post for so many reasons, Jolene! One, we love New Mexico and have visited the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe several times. We're planning to return in November, and now I'm determined to make it to her home in Abiquiu--and get that cookbook too!

Two, I remember that Robert Louis Stevenson poem from a childhood book--it may have had that illustrator!

Three, my heart goes out to you and your precious Tillie; so very glad she and you are feeling better. How very funny that you could get her meds at Walgreen's!

Four, your cocktail party on Oct. 24 is now on my calendar and I can't wait! It's likely I'll be tuning in from somewhere in the California Gold Country, but hopefully there will be a signal and a boozy local specialty at hand.
