Another charming and informative post! I Vicki’s work and writing on Substack. Thanks again for this wonderful series, Jolene. I’ll never think of Advent the same way—in your hands, it’s really, as someone else noted, an Advent-ture!
That Dali card is quite surprising given his usual style and content. Very nice! I also enjoyed the history of Christmas cards and Hallmark. A nice trip to the past.
I hope you reward yourself for these Advent post with a long, peaceful rest. We're really enjoying them and recognize the hard work you put into them.
It seems as though people are sending fewer Christmas cards these days. I know I am! Thank you, Jolene, for the introduction to Vicki Smith. Can we just slow Advent down...❤️
Outstanding! Thank you, Jolene! A Dali Christmas card...from Hallmark?! I loved reading that entire ad. "You will enjoy the Hallmark Radio Program..." And, I'm a big fan of mincemeat pie. I make my own mincemeat (no, no suet) and have a few jars waiting to make this year's Christmas dessert.
I WOULD LOVE A SALVADOR DALI Christmas card - or BARRING THAT one INSPIRED by Dali.
H. R. Giger ?
If you check the link, you can see all of his cards, Daniel
When I was a teen my mom made a champagne sorbet using pink (Andre) sparkling wine, cream, and sliced strawberries. It was amazing!
That sounds delicious and the color must’ve been beautiful, Kerry!
So many goodies here: the first Christmas card! Dali making a melting clock Santa card! And your champagne ice photo looks so gorgeous! 🥂
Thank you, Sabrina! I’d like to link to your latest post on the solstice tomorrow, is that ok?
Of course! I think the Solstice is on Saturday (21st ;)
Thank you! (And, yes, Saturday!)
Thanks for the history of Christmas cards and Hallmark. And thank you, Jolene, for linking to my piece on mincemeat!!
My pleasure, Vicki!
Fascinating post, Jolene. You are a stellar history detective. Who wouldn't want a holiday card from a famous early 20th century artist?
Thank you, Janet, I’ve actually seen some of the originals on eBay!
Ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for one and all! Merry Christmas, friends!
Merry Christmas!

Thank you, Ruth! ❤️
I have to tell you — my mom and I were talking about how great your advent calendar has been. Thanks for bringing joy!
Aww, thank you, Elizabeth, and thanks to your mom, too! ❤️
You had me at Hallmark, and awed me at Dali!
Thanks, Amie, if you get a chance, check the Hallmark link, the other cards by Dalí are beautiful!
Whoa! Nativity!
I know!

Thank you, Andrea! The Dalí collaboration with Hallmark was so fascinating. And, yes, I’m taking time off soon! xx

Isn’t Vicki’s work charming, Pam? The good think about Advent is it always comes back! ❤️

Thank you so much, Alison! I saw that, too, at the bottom of the ad! What a different world!
