I think of Julia Child every time I drop a piece of food on the kitchen floor and pick it back up again 😂 (not for guests! just my children! but still)
I savored this piece and all things French, minus their frequent characteristic disdain. Can’t wait to make crepes. Ham and gruyere is my favorite. Thank you for sharing that Jackie clip. Her accent... I’ll be thinking of a Grey Gardens rewatch now.
This was fun Jolene. Since I lacked awareness of anything but my crib in the Kennedy era, all of this was by later research. I think Julia Child (and Paul) led an amazing life of continuous learning and adventure. Nowadays I think the closest spiritual successor is Jacque Pepin. Always love your photos and kitchen adventures.
I loved watching the video again. I was in the same state of awe as I was when I first watched this in high school. She was so young and so gracious, an amazing woman. Your crepes look delish...I. hope I can find my crepe pan! I want to make them. Cheers, Jolene!❤️
Love all this, Jolene! I love the line from Julia on flipping an omelette I believe “with the courage of your conviction!” :) I loved her show as a child. I didn’t know she wasn’t French until I was much older. She transported me. Thank you for all this. C’est magnifique! A bientot!
What a fun issue! You know, when I first saw the word "concatenation", I automatically thought about my programming husband Tom, and coding in general.
Thanks for sharing the recipe with these yummy photos! It all made me realize that's well past lunchtime here, and I'm truly starving 🤤
P.S. I've just finished binge-watching the last season of "Julia" a few days ago, and I still can't get over how well her charismatic character was portrayed!
Lovely writing. And JC's French Chef was wonderful: such an unmistakeable voice. I'm pretty sure the pancake recipe I always used to follow from Delia Smith including a good ratio of water to the milk, no doubt learned from Julia!

What a great story - thank you Jolene!

Love this pairing of Julia and Jackie and those videos that transport me.
And did you know that we both start our posts this week with quotes from New York Times obits on someone who’d passed at age 91?
Delectable.
so amazing! and the Gourmet cover 💗
Okay, I think this crepe recipe is at my skill level....
"Remember, you are alone in the kitchen and no one can see you" is a true chef's-kiss of a quote. 🥰

Fascinating, and so timely - I've been on a tear watching Julia's videos lately!
