The Herman Miller Picnic Posters, Part Two
Inspiration for a Virtual Picnic Featuring Dream Guests at any Party: Substack Food Writers
This week more picnic guests arrived at my virtual bash and brought all sorts of summery foods with them. I’ve paired their offerings with some of the iconic Herman Miller picnic posters designed by Stephen Frykholm from 1970-1989.
There is also a fantastic video about the creation of the posters featuring Mr. Frykholm that you must see if you love these posters as much as I do. View: Here
Let’s Eat! Picnic Pairings
Last year in honor of Mother’s Day, talented and generous food writers
of Between the Layers and Leah Koenig of traded places to make each of their mother’s chicken recipes. So good!Fresh Mint and Ginger Lemonade from the brilliant Rachel Phipps is a perfect summer drink. Rachel’s newsletter,
has some of the most beautiful food anywhere. This poster reminded me of the pink champagne cake at the Madonna Inn that the wonderful food writer Ruth Stroud
featured so beautifully last year. The gifted and witty Boulanger, Writer and ‘Breaducator’
of wrote about the Herman Miller posters last year, and also treated us to an entire ‘Corn Week’ with recipes.A big thank you to all of my lovely Substack picnic guests over the past two weeks.
I’ll have a book update later this month. The topic: Bertha Palmer and The Girl Bosses of 1893. The planning with author and book coach Leigh Stein for the upcoming post was a blast, so I hope you’ll join in as a paid subscriber and follow along with my book proposal process and progress.
See you soon!
