It's so funny you never know what topics are going to hit it!
BTW the day after reading your hot dog post I went out and got me a hot dog—my first in a year. On the Rockaway Beach boardwalk in Queens. Sooo good! thought it would satisfy me but no—now all I want is more hot dogs!
Hot dogs capture summer at its best! Luckily there are great hot dog places around the country. Flo’s in Cape Neddick ME is a gem. It’s a tiny hot dog stand opened in 1959 serving straightforward wieners with a renowned housemade relish. Perhaps we need a list of hot dog places around the country for those who don’t get to NYC or Chicago very often? Thanks for the great posts!
Thanks SO MUCH for your kind words Jolene. Writing about hot dogs is the ultimate summer story! The last thing I want to do is get between NYC and Chicago and their hot dog habits. I will stick with Ted's as my fave and I am glad that Ms. Kadet agrees. For those on the left coast, there is a Ted's in Tempe, AZ also.
Snags are what I grew up with, as an Aussie. Slang for sausage, the home hardware store Bunnings is indeed a favourite place for snag lovers. We also have a thing called a Democracy Sausage which is a snag on a bbq outside any voting venue at an election. As voting is compulsory in Australia for those who are enrolled to vote, voting stations are often elementary schools who take advantage of people waiting to fundraise by selling a snag in bread with optional onion. Quite a different experience!
I hadn’t eaten a traditional Hot Dog since I was about 10 and tried one at a town fair in country South Australia. It was disgusting and I nearly vomited so I avoided them until I had one here where I live in Finland. There’s a little kiosk near a roundabout here that sells them, Finnish style, with steamed bread. It’s open until about 3am and always has customers. It’s called Rökka. Who knew I’d write so much about snags and Hot Dogs! 😂
My one guilty pleasure would be to have had a loaded Chicago hot dog but alas with celiac disease I’d have to bring my own bun I guess? In any case I bought a Happy looking hot dog sticker and it adorns my laptop now with Chi-town memories
Yes Sonoran dogs are the best! That said by a native New Yorker, if you can’t get a zweigels pop open white hot grilled with mustard onions and meat hot sauce that is.
I love this post, this discussion, all of it, so much.
My life changed forever when I moved to Denmark and had my first Danish hotdog. You can buy them on every street corner, and they are the most delicious things ever.
Yikes, the sun’s not up yet and already I’ve a hankering for a swanky frank! In our travels lately, hamburgers have been more prevalent. Clearly we’ve been patronizing the wrong establishments! Thanks for continuing this tantalizing discussion, Jolene.

Ha! What a wonderful hot dog follow up! I loved the snapshots of your reader’s outrage! 😂
Although I haven't eaten meat in 50 years I grew up eating Swanky Frankys. Split down the middle, filled with cheese and grilled.

hilarious and nostalgic and sweet...even for a non-hot-dog person like me!
pardon me if I missed it - did you see that cream cheese on a hot dog in seattle was a 'thing' going around recently? ha...
A late shoutout to the Coney Island Dogs of SE Mass/Rhode Island. They're fantastic!
Honored to be included 🤣
I love you Jo-Jo! ❤️
