Oh my, that crust! Clearly I have to stop baking cookies and start getting more serious about pie! Thoroughly enjoying this series, Jolene!

No question, Kate's the pie queen, but let's not miss her third book on Home Cooking. I'm currently convalescing, and thoroughly enjoying her Miso Soup with Kim Chi and Egg, which hits all the important points: Easy. Tasty. Pantry ingredients (for some of us, anyway! 😜) Nutritious. Just lovely. And yes, I owe Kate for my new reputation for pie baking! Her crust really is magic.

I do have my moments. They are not very frequent, but I do have them.

My New Year’s baking resolution: FINALLY make a decent pie crust, using the special rolling pin inspired by a bake session with Ruth Stroud. Someday I hope to make it to Pie Cottage, but for now, I’ll settle for Kate’s pie-ble.

My sister’s a tremendous baker; me, not so much. I gave my sis Art of the Pie and she uses it constantly! A fantastic resource for both bakers and those close to bakers.

Jolene, I’m loving this entire series, but this installment is especially wonderful because KATE! My favorite part about her approach is that it’s so…relaxed. I was so nervous and stressed out about making pie before I met her, but she convinced me that the process should be *fun.* 🤯

(Also: thanks for the lovely, surprise mention! ❤️)

Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, I used to bake pies—several of them. They were always a hit. But when my mother passed, I stopped baking. This year, that changes. After more than a decade of mourning, it’s time for pie again.

Thank you for sharing this, Theron. I will make sure Kate sees it, too. Wishing you a Merry Christmas.
