"My main message: we are already one. And in any uncertain situation, cook and eat Borsch. Because it’s about Ukraine. Was, is and will be.” --Love the way you wove all of this research together, and the recipe too! I have chills ❤️‍🩹

I used to live in Ukrainian Village and one of the things I love about the neighborhood is how everyone rallies together when they need it, without question, just immediate support and togetherness. It’s time for us to return the favor.

Hi, Jess, thanks for reading. Btw, I love your newsletter - I’m a native New Yorker and I am planning to read all your posts, I’m so behind on my reading, but I’m looking forward to learning more about life in Alaska :)

So heartbreaking what’s going on! Thanks for a timely, heartfelt post, Jolene! I’ve never until now thought making borscht might be an act of solidarity and a vote for democracy. I have Ukrainian friends here whose families are in peril in Kyiv and whose compatriots may lose their lives fighting to hold onto their country. It’s a tragedy. Thanks also for the mention of my piece on you.

Such bravery and defiance. I’m so sorry to hear about your friends families, Ruth.

Sorry I was late on posting the piece! :)

Thanks, Jolene! I also am not a big fan of beets, but I may try to make and like borscht as an act of solidarity! 🤞

It's heartbreaking and scary. My mother's parents were both from that area, and my mother often made Borsch with that big dollop of sour cream. I'm not a particular fan of beets, but I'd love to have a big bowl of Borsch now!

Hi, Joan. I’ll be joining you for a bowl! Do you have their recipe?
