Great essay, Elizabeth! Your teenager anecdote reminds me of an episode of The Sopranos (which I've been re-watching) when Carmela is planning a huge 70th birthday party for her dad and Meadow shows up at the party with a plastic grocery bag and is like, "I'm going to bake grandpa a cake!" and Carmela gives her a death stare.

There wasn't a Baking Day in my family, but I love the idea and also that you're sharing so many great recipes with us for the holidays (and anytime!), along with some talented bloggers to check out. Thanks again for all you do!💕

This, I'm keen to report, is my big baking day, too!! So far, Scottish Tablet (aka Scottish Crack, appallingly addictive candy guaranteed to jumpstart Type 2 diabetes) , fancy peanut butter blossoms with blobs of swanky ganache instead of Hershey's kisses, and coconut snowmen, which we have already decided not to give to anyone else. I'm going to finish up with these chocolate slices tomorrow. Thanks!
