This was just perfect. My local coffee shop makes the best quiche I’ve ever had so we don’t do it much at home, but this is so simple even *I* could manage 😄 And who doesn’t love Julia? She was a gift — as are you.

I love that Julia Child ate what she loved, like this lovely quiche, and lived to an excellent old age. I read and loved Child's letters exchanged with Iris DeVoto, as well as the memoir co-written with her nephew. She was an extraordinary woman. I may try this in her honor, despite my aversion to overly eggy quiches. Thanks, Jolene.
I loved this! Julie & Julia is a favourite film of mine and I’m yet to see the series but it’s on my list - and available in Finland 🙂 my mouth is watering thinking of eating this quiche 💖
Try a 50-50 butter shortening or lard ratio for the pastry. It will still have that beautiful buttery flavour, but will benefit from the crisp, flaky texture created by the alternative fat. It is how my mother does it, and after trying out so many recipes for my shortcrust to make savoury tarts and quiches (I'm not the most confident pastry maker, even after taking pastry courses!) but I've given up on recipes that tell me to do it another way!
Thank you Jolene, what a lovely read and what an amazing gift you received. Julia is in my heart, too. I checked and it seems the series won't be available in Italy at the moment 😔 I'll have to re-watch Julie & Julia for the 100th time I guess.
this was definitely a fun piece! And do you to a lifelong fandom I’ve had with quiche, I’ll have to try this recipe. Though mine, sadly, needs to be gluten-free, and I may just make it crust-free. but I have all the ingredients for the custard so I should just get on with it today! :-) Thanks for sharing and I look forward to the interview. And thanks for the tip about the show - I hadn’t heard about it. I don’t have HBO Max but the list of shows that I want to watch has grown to the point where I think I may have to go ahead and splurge.
Whoa! What a generous friend! 🤩👏📚 Great timing with this issue - I've just started watching "Julia" on HBO Max couple days ago, and I just l-o-v-e it! Can't wait to try this quiche recipe 🧑🍳
Thanks for the reminder about how much we love Julia and why I should make a point of watching the series about her on HBO-Max. My mother and so many women of her generation completely changed how they cooked after reading "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." I can't wait to hear your interview with Sara Moulton about Julia. That quiche looks scrumptious, but I'm with you--I love butter, though the debate over which fat to use and how much will go on forever. I hope you do too. Such a fun read!
You chuckled over the bacon, heavy cream, and eggs for a light lunch; I chuckled about the bottle of wine. I loved the mingling of your voice with that of Julia’s in this post.
That photo of Julia is amazing.

I think it looks perfect!
It's my late mother's namesake, too, so I'll always think fondly of this one <3

I thought that was a green salad in the background! A beautiful quiche and an elegant lunch. What could be better?
Sara Moulton is a favorite of mine. I loved her Cooking Live show, what a star she is. I’m looking forward to learning more about Sara and Julia.
Meanwhile, I’m going to make quiche!😊
Lovely, Jolene. You captured Julia beautifully. And I, too, wonder about that Wondra!
Looks scrumptious! I have never heard of instant flour. Interesting!
