Hi, Pam! I love how you separated the letters, I can hear the J E L L O song 🎶 right now 😂! And thanks for your kind comment, I’m glad you are enjoying. :)
Everything sounds scrumptious! I also grew up with lots of Jell-O and now you can barely find it in the grocery store. It's funny because I'm writing at this very moment about food illustration and one ad campaign by Jell-O.
Vicki, somewhere, but no idea where, I have a little promotional cartoon booklet Jell-O issued in the 1930s, starring Jack Benny and Mary Livingston (his wife and then-comedy partner) I bought it a million years ago. Very cute. :)
Buckeyes are so nostalgic for me - my mom's family is from Ohio and even though our branch of the family is in a different Midwestern state now, we still always make buckeyes during Christmas!
Your newsletter is always a treat, Jolene! Love the memories of Jell-O. My mother used to make a delightful dessert with strawberry Jell-O—I think it included crushed strawberries and whipped egg whites. Thanks also for the nod to Stan’s Donuts. Chicago is the beneficiary of LA’s loss. I don’t know who will win the Super Bowl, but both those desserts are winners!💕
That cake keeps calling my name... Recipe is now pinned to fridge... I've never been keen on cherry flavor Jello (it's an unfamiliar flavor to a Brit of a certain age) But love strawberry jelly with ice cream, a children's birthday party treat in the UK in the 70s. I made jelly with gelatin and juice for a recipe last year, and it was a revelation!
I love this memory of chocolate siding on the Victorian, Amy 😂 Also definitely send pictures of the champagne cake and let me know if you have any questions at all. :)
How great. I love paper ephemera from a different era. The ordinary takes on such significance when it has been around for a long time.
So many memories of jello! I loved the ads on tv for J E L L O!! I still like it though seldom make it. The Buckeyes look great! A personal favorite.
Thanks, Jolene, for this wonderful newsletter, a highlight of my week’

Oh, wow, Annette! I’ll help you look for it ! 😂 would love to see :)
It has followed me around since the 80s. Unfortunately, haven't seen it since the last move. Fingers crossed!

Thank you, Ruth! 💕
Jello is definitely making a comeback! Last summer I wrote about how it’s kitsch value rivals the Tasty videos of the Pinterest food era: https://borschtforbreakfast.substack.com/p/9-how-tasty-videos-became-millennial-aspic
I love this, Mia!
Bonus points for putting sweets and sport in the same story.
Thanks, Gianni! ;)

I didn’t know this about cherry flavor! Love the birthday party treat :)
