A friend of mine just set up a fundraiser on Facebook to send $ to the World Central Kitchen. I donated and also shared the link to this article so others would know more about Jose Andres' amazing work.
I had never heard of paczki until I moved to Detroit in the 1980s. Now that I'm back on the east coast I miss them. They're becoming more popular here, but they're not as good. On the other hand, we are so fortunate to have Jose Andres here in DC, and his WCKitchen. Thanks for spotlighting their work, Jolene.
My mouth is watering for a Paczki! And the stories of connection between Chicago and Poland are so timely in this tragic moment. Thanks for another wonderful post to savor, Jolene.
Thank you for sharing these stories, Jolene. I love the story about the World Central Kitchen. It's so true... there are many ways to fight a war (and kindness is one). I hope they are safe... you mentioned they are in Kharkiv.
Yes, kindness. They are based in Poland on the border greeting refugees and also back and forth to Lviv and had been working with a bakery in Kharkiv (as of a few days ago) but the major initiative is on the Polish border and they are also establishing a presence the Hungarian border.

I hadn’t heard of Paczki till I moved here, Domenica! So good. And, yes, how fortunate to have Chef Andrés and WCK in D.C. 🙏🌻
Love hearing about this Polish delight and about the power of food during crises!
Thank you, Juliana and thanks again for sharing this post 😊
I appreciate learning about a new-to-me polish delicacy...and the uplifting updates below it. Sigh <3

So cool to be a consultant in such a tasty matter 🍩 Pączki connect people! Who didn't try the traditional, rose-filled one def should try.
And it's so heartening to read about people like Chef Andrés. Beautiful way to help 🇺🇦

Thanks for explaining. Still not safe, but safer, hopefully.
