Love all the bread inspiration. I have made it, though I agree it’s a bread best left to the pros. I also love Pandoro, the very tall, airy star-shaped bread/cake from Verona. Have you tried it?
P.S. Panettone and pandoro both make wonderful French toast, and are great bases for tiramisu and trifles.
Thanks, Domenica, I keep seeing pictures of Pandoro on Instagram and want to order a good (or pick one up at Eataly) any brands you prefer? Love French Toast!
All of this is such fun! Will try the Parker House rolls (even though that feels ambitious). Just used the sugar cookie recipe you posted last year (it's the best)
There's that Pullman loaf again! That's one of the shared Chicago connections that brought me to you in the first place after I read one of your TTK posts . I'm every grateful for that Pullman loaf.
Almost missed this one! I’ve never attempted panettone either, but I loved reading about the late maestro of this art in Anna’s piece—and your pain de mie looks fantastic. I feel I must give it a try, but I won’t attempt panettone—I might just have to order one. Thanks for this brilliant series, Jolene!
I'm Italian born and bred, and I've never liked panettone. Pandoro is a bit better, but the very best Italian Christmas cakes are the spicy panforte from Siena, parrozzo from the Abruzzo region, and pandolce from Genoa. I love your Advent Calendar, Jolene, every day is such a treat!
Very impressed with your pain de mie, Jolene! It’s been on my list of things to try at home so I will check out the recipe you linked. And thanks so much for sharing my piece!
I just bought my second Panetonne of the season today. I LOVE pannetone, and have to share it at my church coffee hour so I won't eat the whole thing myself!!
I have a wonderful cheese shop next to my apartment and last year they started getting Panettone from Sicily -- it is the most amazing and agree, beautiful bread... xo
Hi, Barbara! A cheese shop that has Panettone, too sounds great to me. A friend just wrote that it makes great French toast, gotta try that, too. Merry Christmas, 🎁🎄 let’s have a call after New Years? ❤️
Jolene! Panettone is my love language. Like you, it is not in my future to ever make one, so I will go to great lengths to buy a good one. Thank you so much for all the links. Maybe there's still time to order one.
I hope you find a good one, Janet! And thank you so much, I’m enjoying your advent calendar, too and received ScandiKitchen Christmas today, got it on your recommendation, so thank you!
First, Jolene, your Advent calendar is wonderful. Thanks for it and I hope you do it next year. I'm a panettone lover. I want to share chefshop.com with other folks who might love panettone, too. Every holiday season they sell, both in their Seattle shop (as a local, I'm lucky to go in person), and online, many, many panettone, imported from Italy. Late now, so the inventory might be depleted. But, bookmark them for next year! Lemon, cherry, apricot, chocolate, so many options; I've never been disappointed.
“Panettone is something I’ve never made, and likely won’t” —accurate!
Hahaha! 😂
Having a holiday party tonight and we’ll have panetonne (not homemade though, but store-bought) 🎄
Also, have a great party! 🎉 🎄
I never make it either!!!

Thanks for the shoutout Jolene!
My pleasure, Amy!
So many inspiring bakers!
Agreed, Vicki! Can’t wait for Andrew’s book to come out! 🍞

I’m so glad you made the sugar cookies, Melanie! (And, we’re pleased!) keep me posted on the Parker House rolls! 😃

Let me know what you think. I enjoy it, but I’m a ScanHead.
Will do!
Pannetone I SORT OF remember, Parker House with Icing, DEFINITELY.
Thanks for the memories, although 5 decades kind of blur things.....

Love Panetonne! A Christmas breakfast tradition in our home for years and years
